In order to check it in, you must do a further edit and save it again.

Workaround: After you are warned that the connection was lost, use Save As rather than Save to save your changes locally.

To open it, close InDesign and copy the file to a different location, then restart InDesign and open the file from the new location.

If you connect to the server using an IP address, export the file, then connect to the server another time using the domain name and export the file, the links within the file are written differently.

Avoid using a display name for the connection, as this always results in an invalid reference.
